Stranger

I remember it like it was yesterday.

The vivid scream of someone I love.

The cry of help from the monstrosity my father has brought into my home.

While I sat

helpless.

I remember it like it was yesterday.

All the events you left me stranded at

Wishing, hoping, crying, begging you to be here

But you weren’t.

You weren’t coming, you never would.

So there I sat again

Helpless.

I remember it like it was yesterday.

Reliving all the pain you’ve caused me.

Reliving the police banging on my door.

Reliving her cry for help as you struck her.

Reliving my whimper as you left me for What should have been a few weeks.

Turned into months, years.

So here I am, staring at the shell of a man who I should call my father

Yet all I see is a stranger.
