To Thank Them

 

She stood in the corner, waiting for it.

‘You aren’t good enough’ she was told repeatedly.

And then came the next blow, hit after hit.

She missed school from bruising increasingly.

She shrunk down to nothing in her corner

As he said again that she was nothing.

She thought to herself, ‘I can’t take this torture.’

So she walked into the world, untrusting.



The rest of the world told her she had worth,

That she did not deserve what he did

She was surprised that they thought her more than dirt

And then suddenly she went off the grid.



They say he took his revenge for her leaving.

Her last words were to thank them for believing.
