Tornado

Tornado ©2011

A tornado hit my best friend's town

Sliced trees in half, smashed chimneys down

I could only hear from far away

but I wished I could be there to say:

O storm, please don't take him away

There's a storm

but I don't know

in a storm

where would I go

what would I leave

what would I save

who would I hold

where would I hide

when everything comes crashing down around outside

Would I drop everything and run to you

o storm, what would I do

Me oblivious miles away

didn't know until the next day

he said his grandma's house had barely survived

but all his family were well and alive

o storm, I wouldn't have known if he'd blown away

No storm here

nothing to fear

but I feel cold

rather cold

(like wind)

There's a storm

but I don't know

in a storm

where would I go

what would I leave

what would I save

who would I hold

where would I hide

when everything comes crashing down around outside

Would I drop everything and run to you

o storm, what would I do

[possible another verse here, then refrain again]

I thought a while on these events

life's so fragile, love so intense

the two like a thin-walled globe of glass

and inside a thunderstorm spins faster and faster

o storm, how does it never shatter?

There's a storm

but I feel warm

strangely warm

in the eye of the storm

(like fire)

There's a storm

but I don't know

in a storm

where would I go

what would I leave

what would I save

who would I hold

where would I hide

when everything comes crashing down around outside

Would I drop everything and run to you

o storm, what would I do

Drop everything

run, run against the wind

and the rain and the flashing sky,

let it all fade

take me in your arms

hold me close against the storm

and even if tornados blow

it won't matter

There's a storm

but I feel warm

strangely warm

like fire.
