Truth Hurts
Lead or follow
Forgive or forget
Live like I’m hollow
I choose not to sweat
WE choose to let freedom ring
Fighting off this poverty
Flashing lights going off
Glare makes it hard to see
That everything we build is falling
Voices of ancestors calling
Actions committed appalling
We’re hauling ourselves off to death
Fires building advances fading
Fighting waters of truth and wading
In the tears of those who tried to make it
In the hopes that we would one day break it
This cycle of destruction we kill one another
I got mine now you get yours kind of cover
That separates daughters from mothers
And best friends from lovers these things hover
Over us
Empower us to hurt
We jump and fall too fast
Living like celebrities in spotlights that don’t last
Decorating ourselves like cakes
So why don’t we deserve to bake
To feel the heat of the disasters we create
Of all the horrible choices and decisions we make
But for people like me
Who want to forget the misery
We live with these choices never free
From repeating the destiny
That we were never supposed to have
But since we’re repeating history
It’s a Mystery that we don’t repeat the good
We copy the bondage, not paying homage
To those who made it possible for us to do anything.
We rebuild the ghettos in higher stilettos
Trying to get closer to the sun
We’re already burning here on earth.
Creating our own forms of hell
Until combined voices yell
LET FREEDOM RING.
LET ME BE FREE
LET ME LOVE ME
BEFORE I CAN LOVE ANYTHING.
Overcome by pregnant children
Too young to understand
Outdone by our own doings
Not following our own commands
Quick to give advice but slow take
Never easily bended but easy to break
We’re flawed by design
Made to be complicated
But trying to be something we’re not
Until one day we’re someone hated
By no one but ourselves
Its time for a change
“yes we can”
But never alone
We need a hand that we’re
Afraid to hold
Even though we’re bold
Bold enough to hold kilos
That could be the end of your life.
So Lead or follow
I’ll lead.
Forgive or forget
I’ll forgive.
And yet some people like me
Cant even speak
The real deal
Because the truth hurts.
