Understanding self

Psalm 139:8 New English Translation (NET Bible)

8 If I were to ascend to heaven, you would be there.
If I were to sprawl out in Sheol, there you would be.

In this world today and to separate right from wrong

would be easy in black and white, but how in shades of gray?

Since judgment is slow in coming and hell is ever-expanding

one cannot look at justice and judge by the prices paid.

What is deserved right now surely cannot be measured.

What will be in the future as it is not ours to see?

So we turn to scripts of man and hope to find the answer,

but now it looks for certain that iniquity is all we reap.

The rulers of this world are not George, Dick, and Harry.

They seemed formed somewhere in a place called “pre-destined”

Am I then a fatalist? No that could not make me merry.

Maybe more of a realist in whatever that needs still testing.

That brings us to reality and whatever that‘s a meaning

Is this in the things I perceive but not the way they are?

Is it any wonder then that I am so confused when dreaming?

And in such being deceived by self I must be right thus far.

To understand myself can only be done through others.

Have them lead me by the hand so to tell me who I am.

But only truth will come if they do these things and bother

To love me as a friend and not for ours to understand.

“Love your neighbor as yourself” that is where it starts.

What if you don’t love self is it much easier to love another?

I think to love God above all and then to love your enemy

will help to give up what’s left for your neighbor and brother.
