The voice of the Idol.

I have seen your petty race
Foolish and stupid
Leaving your God and His grace
To run after me, to chase
Only for the hope of a taste
Only to wither away and become like waste
Run to me
You make my desires easily acquired
Because you can see me and love all your driving passions and fires
And here I am offering sweet attire
Looking for someone to hire
Someone alone in the mire
And you will be mine
And even though your God is loving and kind
Even so, I can change your mind
And cause your convictions to unwind
Your love for your Husband to lose it's bind
Because here I am
But where is He?
Worship only that which you can see
And I will storm all of your memories
That you may forget your first love and come back to me
Dirty
A guilty dove
You don't even need convincing
I will protect and satisfy
Even though for you He was willing to die
My only foe
For now He cries
In remembrance of His runaway bride
And I remember long ago when for the last time nature was beautiful
So I became a fruit, offering a sweet toll
And nothing ever changed
Like the time I was made of gold
Or became a temple of worship
Regardless of what you were told
You sunk to me like a sinking ship
And bowed in reverence

What is this I hear and fear
Still your God draws you near?
Even after all you've done
Woman of the night
Prostitute
Adulterous one!?
My tactics must increase
My tempting shall never cease
To take His people away
Until the much dreaded judgement day
For after I was bitten into I withered
And on the ground my companion slithered
For after I was formed into gold
They destroyed me and again I was cold
Needing to be praised
So I came again in many forms
In women and horses and money and whores and all that became right in your own eyes
But I am left alone
Kicked off of the throne of your heart for a greater art
But only for a time
So I will have my fill
For thousands of years I will reign to kill
And still you will come to me and go against His will
Yet He will pursue you ever still
And they will crown me king and plaster me all over their cities and I shall show no pity for I am witty and clever
I will be here forever
Waiting around for an unfaithful wife to come to me and give me her life
I am idolatry and all mankind seeks after me
See the praise for all my treachery
And the honor of my indignity
I will blind the sons of man
Surely I will do all I can
To divert all that they are
And lead them away to distant planets and stars
They will serve me.
