Information passes between the synapses of our souls

Chemical messengers shooting from one person to another to another to a fourth

Words, sentences, phrases lock into the receptors in our hearts

And stick

Sending messages to our bodies

To be happy, be sad, be angry

 

And they tell us we are more than just test scores

 

But when the letters in the book matter more than the connections in our brains

The message meant for our hearts

Is sent to the pits of our stomachs

 

The information in our synapses needs to be more than equations and methods

It needs to be support

It needs to be truth

It needs to be clarity

And those messages can't stop at our skulls

 

You cannot say we are people

And then treat us like numbers

Because we are more than just test scores

 

You are the transmitters

We are the neurons connecting the future
