What Do They See?

Location

Memphis

What do teachers see when they look into our eyes?

Do they see hope or potential or a lack of ambition?

Do they know some of us will fail?

We’ve known nothing but school: tests, quizzes, homework, summer break.

What happens after that? A million other starry eyed kids being thrown into a malicious, needy culture where our GPA won’t make the cut.

We surround ourselves with people that lift us up & we ostracize the ones who are different.

The world cycles us in and out.

In and out.

In and out.

Generation after generation of unmotivated people.

People who don’t understand calculus.

Students who don’t actually have an opinion.

I have all this ambition but I have so little motivation.

The world has been turning for billions of years.

And I’ve only been here for seventeen.

What do they see when they look at me?
