What is love?

What is love?

“What is love?” the boy asked his mother

She looked down at the child and paused

Even though she wanted to answer, she couldn’t

She couldn’t answer because she herself did not know

The mother though back asking herself, “Why...

Why can’t I look in those innocent eyes and tell him?”

She thought back to all the times she had heard, “I love you”

She remembered her father saying “I love you, and I’ll always be here for you.”

Yet later that night he walked out the door to never come back

She remember her mother saying the same words with hate-filled eyes

, then left her at her grandmother’s house.

She still could not answer the boy so she though hard

Until she remembered the young man who told her the same words

That she believed with all her heart.

She gave him everything he asked for without a second thought

Until the day he got everything he wanted and left,

Leaving her with only this child to remember him

Yes, the same child that grew up to ask “What is love?”

As she continued to think, tears started to fill her eyes

When the boy saw a tear fall down from his mother’s face,

He said the only words he could, “mommy, I love you and I will never hurt you”

After hearing these words the mother squeezed her child tightly.

Now it has been 10 years and the boy is now a man

The mother looks around the house searching for the boy

When there is a knock at the door, she opens the door

And there he is standing with his own family and his arms stretched out saying

“I know what love is now” he looks back then continues

“Love is what I feel for those who I care for the most.

After saying those powerful words he never left.
