When I Realized...

I am an immigrant

and in the blink of an eye, my life could be taken;

in the blink of an eye, my life could be shaken into a nightmare i never expected.

As i walk the streets i’m scared of what can follow

“the consequences of being an immigrant”, i think to myself and swallow.

I start to imagine the cries of my mother

and i think i’m not strong enough for a fight, probably not even my brother

Is it wrong that i’m scared to travel north?

I've heard of the assaults on the people who don’t speak the language.

God, but they really love a good cuban sandwich

They love our culture and they love our food

but man, they are so snobby and rude.

I don’t wanna be heard, i wanna be listened to,

I want my opinions to be considered,

not only in my cuban neighborhood, because that just makes me bitter;

and Lord knows i’m not a quitter, so i’ll continue to put up a fight

because I am destined for a very significant life.

Why wouldn’t I be scared to live in this country?

Even the president mistakes me for something I'm not.

Sorry Mr. President, I’m not Mexican,

but did you know that your discriminating nature is the reason for their labor?

You’ve encouraged them to be better neighbors

and they are educating themselves in order to prove you wrong.

In the blink of an eye, us immigrants could really start taking your jobs

in the blink of an eye, we will no longer be associated with mobs and slobs

We’ve been deemed lazy, but did you know that illegal immigrant men are more likely to work than American men?

So who’s the lazy one? Tell me again.

Minorities are in pain

and it is shown by our bloodstains and restraints,

not only hispanics, but also black men.

You keep standing your ground, hunting them down, gunning them down

when will this stop, please tell me when?
