The Wolf Always Comes Back

I hear you.

Not now. Please, not now.

I can beg all I want, but it won’t change anything.

The Wolf Always Comes Back.

No matter how far from the forest I am I can still hear your howl.

You beckon me to where the wild things are.

I can be the most domesticated I’ve ever been, but

The Wolf Always Comes Back.

You aren’t here. I’m safe. I’m sheltered.

When will I learn you are not the hunter, but the stalker?

I put on a new face and cover my tracks, but

The Wolf Always Comes Back.

Sometimes, I dream of stopping my foot.

I turn my back to the path ahead and meet your glowing eyes.

But before I can speak, the baritone growl in your throat constricts my own.

The Wolf Always Comes Back.
