Write Our Story

"If you don't write your own life story,

Someone else will write it for you."

Is that true?

In a selfish, self-absorved, self-obsessed world,

Where everyone values their own story more than anyone else's,

Maybe the truth is more like this:

If you don't write your own life story,

No one else will.

So if your story has value,

If you have something to contribute

To the human race.

Write.

Humans die.

Grave stones crumble.

Records burn.

Well written words live for thousands of years.

Words are cheap now in the information age.

So write something worthy of lasting.

Something greater than you.

Our mortal bodies are not worthy of lasting.

So don't just write your own life story;

Write on behalf of all of us.

Write to preserve the past,

Describe the present,

And enlighten the future.

Because if you don't write our story,

It will be forgotten.

We are mortal.

We forget.

We neglect history's lessons.

We think we've evolved,

When nothing's really changed.

Forget writing your life story.

Turn your mirrors into our windows.

Write from a Hubble Telescope view of the world,

Through the lenses of your own eyes.

Because we are all alike.

Write for all of us -

Write history, write news, write sci fi.

One day it may all be true.

Write something that will last.

Write something that will help all of us.

Because what we don't write,

We'll lose.

The written word is immortal as long as people care about it.
