Writing is Flying

All my life I’ve dreamed to write,

To watch the letters taking flight

To transport readers into space

Where imaginings are commonplace

So write I will, while I wait,

Hoping for that publish date

Writing… living in a dream

Nothing’s really as it seems

For I might write,

And read,

And hope,

And pray.

But publishers still have their way

My words my own,

My own might stay.

So instead I’ll read your words

Watch them fly like wheeling birds

And help you make them flow like rain,

Across a window, not down a drain

Proofread,

Edit,

Revise, Advise,

Published author, highest prize

But to edit another’s book

I’ll have to know just how to look

For adverbs, pronouns, prepositions

Proper structure, good transitions

And for this, I’ll likely need

A slip of paper, a degree

Hard-earned, expensive, every, each

And without help… out of my reach

This document would change my life

Enable me to end the strife

Set me free, a bird on a wire

Nothing to which I could not aspire.
