You Adulterer

Note to self

I read your bio the other night

and it depressed me because it wasn't right

You've seemed to have given up the fight

You adulterer

I read about your faithfulness in the past

Promising a love that would truly last

but you've left that love oh too fast

like an adulterer

You criminal, you've committed theft

And now you accuse the one you've left

so your soul is eager in its desire to cleft

you adulterer

Have you forgotten that you live for something much bigger than yourself

Or have you simply put that ideal on the shelf

Will you live for you and no one else

You filthy adulterer

Woe is me oh my God

Thine glory alone have I tried to rob

Thine majesty alone replaced be the idol

When you told me you would have no rival

Woe is me for you offer grace

When I curse and spit in your face

Even when I run the opposite way in haste

Like an adulterer

Oh my God and my King

For you and You alone I will sing

I know now to whom to cling

For I was an adulterer

But you

You knew my trial

You drew me back all the while

And you've been faithful
