AP Literature.

Shakespeare this, Shakespeare that.

From Hamlet to the tragicomdey King Lear,

Our AP Literature teacher held in high regard.

The enthusiam of learning ancient literature,

Brightened the class like candles emerging from the abyss.

As I stepped into the class,

Shakespeare's world took over my consciousness.

An effect that was entrancing,

As I discovered the teacher's devotion to Shakespeare,

Has shaped him.

I was in awe,

As the recitations were precise and moving.

The effect in which Lear and Cordelia reuite,

Has put a tear in his face as he recites their tragic ends.

Behold I possess a powerful book in my hand,

Understanding the language was a difficult task to comprehend.

Fighting to comprehend "Hither" and "Thine" at hand,

I realized Shakespeare emphasized iambic pentameter to mend.

The extent of Shakespeare's words had meaning,

Each word mended to a sentence creating life.

A life expressed by the poet's hand,

A thought process we students must understand.

To me,

Poetry reveals one's emotions.

A character that mirrors the poet's experiences.

Through literacy devices of onomotopoeia and allusion.

A poem can touch the hearts of multitudes.

Like my AP Literature teacher displays,

The compassion and admiration for Shakespeare's plays,

Showed me the potential of poetry,

A journey to embark,

And it's power through inspired ingenuity.
