Because You Love Them More

A small girl sits; her eyes are blurred with tears.

Her dad is ruined; he’s drunk and shouts enraged.

A mother awaits her son’s return with fears.

He’s rebellious; he can not be assuaged.

A young, just married couple falls apart.

A boy treads on, a lost and downcast youth.

The time is not there spent in loving heart.

The family not built in love, in truth.

What then keeps together broken families?

Is it a job? A house? More freedom?

Nay, my reader, be it not one of these.

You must look harder; look for a different reason.

The only thing that pulls two souls together,

Is the love that’s found there within.

That love must be strong, and change not as weather.

That tie must be all that has ever been.

And yes, it shouldn’t be filled with selfish thoughts.

You love not for yourself.

The only thing you try and get across,

Is the love you have for someone else.

And how, you ask, is that to be done?

The needs of the one you love must be placed above your own.

This is simple, my reader, and requires only one.

You are to be the shelter, the comforter, the joy, the backbone.

Though no two people are just perfect.

Sometimes you may be hurt through family war.

Love is when you catch their eye and silence conflict.

Then just smile and say, “It’s okay, I love you more.”

Yes, you should love them more than your own desire.

You should love them more than to argue for your side of war.

The love you have will never tire,

Because, my reader, you love them more.
