To the Caged Bird

Dear Caged Bird,

I see the sadness in your eyes,

When you look out the window,

Hearing the soft, seductive sighs,

Of the beautiful wind mid-flow.

The Sun kisses your cheek,

Nature's tunes make your lullaby,

I know what it is you seek,

I know why it is you cry.

Yet, you sing,

A glorious, melodious harmony,

Your voice, it echoes within Spring,

The wind carrying it further than the eyes can see.

Oh, how the others envy your song,

But your song, Caged Bird, is a curse...a curse that has followed you all along.

Sincerely,

a Well-wisher

This poem could symbolize many things, but mostly unlawful imprisonment. This could pertain to animals being abused or to human trafficking. The Caged Bird stands as a symbol for the victim of imprisonment and her voice stands for the thing she was imprisoned for having. In the case of human trafficking, the voice would be the person's body, because that was the sole reason he/she was "caged". Originally, I had no idea like this in mind when I wrote the first word, but the ideas eventually merged and became this. I hope you enjoyed the poem. :)
