Cortisol Pools

The shivers in the night, the  quiet inner fight

really, victory for me is a night of rest

I often cool my hot body, shield it from peace

divingboard summersaults into a pool of cortisol

dissolved alkaseltzers of pending doom

and black roses sprinkled on top for effect

pool of cortisol, you can have it all

telling me it's ok, won't make it go away

telling me to rest, brain refuses to compromise

so it whips the heart to race faster

she said she couldn't find me

look for the scotch trails, heart bits, and cigarette

smoke signals, awaiting there by the

light blue cortisol pool, baby,

sincerly peace I sit here waiting for you.
