I write because...

Poetry is important to me

being an African American woman shit it's important to the colored community,

It seems like the system is against us completely,

it's 2016 but it just feels like a mirror of history!

Our biggest aspects are our minds,

violence and unorganized protests is just a waste of our time.

Either way we get lower hand,

prison or death because we're still seen as a fraction of a man!

I write because this is one of our limited outlets,

besides that one day every four years, that the community is seen as relevant.

It is important to keep in mind the impact of writing in a community with no voice.

I am ONE individual with a God given talent and gift,

to be the voice of the OTHERS, the minorities and make some political and educational Noise!

I am my skin and the worst thing for you to do would be to say "I don't see color"

trying to make the mood more melo and settle!

Because, in fact I want you to see the color of my skin.

Don't ignore it. Adore it. Don't deny it. Simply accept and imply it!
