If I were a Superhero

If I were a superhero, what would I do?

Would I put out a fire, or help at the zoo?

What would my name be: Brave Beth?

Altruistic Anne? Clever Cath?

If I were a superhero, what are my powers?

Animal loving or growing flowers?

Would I want power like lightning or speed?

Oh no! Those kinds of heroes are the wrong breed.

If I were a superhero, I'd be like the ones we already have.

Firefighters, police officers, they're the ones with class.

Soldiers fighting for liberty and justice with their game plan

are just as deserving of a cape as Batman.

Sometimes we forget, as we check our iPhones,

there are those who deal with worse than sticks and stones.

There are angels who have broken wings or missing halos,

and thus, it's our turn to become the superheroes.

Say hi to a disabled veteran.

Say thanks to a fireman or a firewoman.

Time can only heal so much,

so let's be superheroes by being each others' crutch.
