Little Black Girl

Do you remember when you were little.

Young in the world. The sky held no limits.

Having to sit in a chair in the kitchen to get the "hot comb" attention.

Having to tell the difference between white and black Barbie.

You spoke the language of Ms.Mary Mack, and those times when everyone looked at you as if you had a kick me sign taped on your back.

Do you remember the multi-color hair balls, that sometimes fell off.

The plaits that came un-done from time to time.

Little black girl so pretty and innocent, yet conformed by dead wishes.
