Poetry Slam On Poetry

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth

Wait stop what this even mean

All this metonymy, alliteration, synecdoche, allusions

Coming at me with metaphors, similes, polysyndeton

Drowning me in meaningless words of nothing

Poetry

Constantly were forced into writing poems, using apostrophes and imagery

Teachers telling us this meaning less dribble will broaden our minds

When all it does is confuse and suffocate them into mush

Poetry

“Oh well your girlfriend would like some poems” Ya right

The allegories, onomatopoeias, innuendos are unfit

For your pure, unadulterated, Christian teacher ears

 Poetry

They say that poems guide us into a deeper understanding of life

All that the cadences, couplets, counting

Combined with ellipsis, enjambement, epistle

That makes up the sinews of the monster that drags us down

From being enlightened thinkers to confused apes

Really does is destroy any deep thoughts that e’er I had

Poetry

Even these rappers calling themselves “poets”

Claiming to be like Shakespeare, Frost, Dickinson

Pretending to be Cummings, Carroll, Poe

Make little to no sense and they aren’t even good

Them with “obscure” references that five year olds get

And yes Lil’ Wayne we all got what the “song” Lollipop meant

You just sit there listening to them try to rhyme

It kills you to core and makes you just want to die

The worst part is that they aren’t even capable of rapping the entire time

Half way through they make some sort of shout out

Then another person just says some stuff and leaves

Either that or Two-chains shouts Two-chains

And says something point less and meanness

Like all rap music, and…

Poetry (well sort of)

At the top I opened with the one poem I think is not trash

This is the one poem that even makes a bit of sense to me

Frost using his rhyming, denotation and connotation

Tells you what life is

Choices

So choose

Wither you want to blindly follow the path you’re told, to write out meaningless dribble

Or choose the path I did, saying forget poetry. And say

I HATE POETRY!!!
