together
i was not looking for love
in all the right or
wrong places—
i was not looking at all.
i could teach lifetimes
on happily-ever-alone.
you saw me anyway,
invaded my daydreams
just long enough for me to look
for love in one place:
us.
when you gave up on
me and you,
i learned the difference between
alone and lonely,
and it has nothing to do with
looking because
i close my eyes
and still see you
walking away.
i am running out of ways
to call you back without saying
your name.
i lied—
i should have told you
my poetry was about you
from the start.
i have written four pages
of poetry about you—
and that’s just since you left.
imagine what we could have
written together.
