IF AND ONLY IF
Thinly disguised misogyny
Thirteen-year old’s agony
A fallen angel
Born in the wrong cradle
Mistaken miracle.
Story of a girl
Naked soul and half-burn
“You aren’t fair,
You don’t have a lovely hair.”
Constant taunts and glare
“Salad and green tea
Only then you will be, She”
Trying to attain perfect figure
Somewhere in between she lost her vigour
Constant fear
Of being labelled and tagged.
In search of physical attributes to brag
Taking refuge in fake praises,
Untied laces.
Disoriented mind
Piece of paper, Unbind
She thought of herself
Lifeless and worthless.
On her quest to be the girl from magazine cover,
To gain fleeting fame.
Skipped breakfast and applied countless crème
But both came back to haunt her.
Lying on her untidy bed
Crying in muffled voice
Praying to the Gods
If and only if
She could be the recipient of that genetic gift
Then she might not be bullied
Mocked for being who she is.
Hanging from the ceiling
Waiting for death’s kiss
Forgotten jigsaw piece
Finally, attains peace.
